Locations are your company’s library of places - hotels, airports, cities, attractions, venues. When you add a stop on the map in the Trip Editor, Columbus saves it here so you can reuse it on future trips.
What you can do
- Reuse the same hotel or airport across many trips
- Store address, city, country, and map coordinates
- Search when building itineraries (places are created as you work)
How locations are created
- 1
In the Trip Editor, search for a place on the map (hotel name, city, airport).
- 2
Select the result - Columbus creates or reuses a location automatically.
- 3
That place appears on this trip and is saved for next time.
You do not usually manage locations in a separate screen day to day - they build up naturally as you plan trips.
Location vs “stop on the map”
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Location | Master record in your library (e.g. “Hilton Colombo”) |
| Stop on a trip | That place as used on one specific option’s route |
The same location can appear on many trips; each appearance is its own stop on that option’s map.
Tips
- Prefer searching the same spelling each time so you do not duplicate “Hilton Colombo” twice.
- Coordinates drive map markers and driving routes between stops.
- Locations belong to your company - another company on Columbus has its own library.
Common questions
Can I edit a location name for one trip only?
Yes - the stop on the trip can show a different display name without changing the master record.
What if I delete a location?
If it is still used on active trips, deletion may be blocked - check with your admin.
